My Secret Santa

The moderators and I on PR played the secret santa gift exchange this year. My secret santa gift arrived yesterday from Jennifer who’s also a new mommy to Sarah!

It’s a knitting calendar! A year’s worth of knitting patterns to keep me busy. What a wonderful gift. Of course being the impatient girl that I am, I flipped through half a year’s worth of patterns to see what’s in store for me. The calendar has really cool patterns from funky hats to knitted toys even lots of easy sweaters and tons of felted handbags and lovely socks. I can’t wait to cast on!

Now I need one of these calendars for sewing too, since my goal for next year is to make one garment each month (at least).

Thanks Jennifer and Thanks Sharron for organizing this for us.

BTW I loved this exchange so much that I think I am going to do one on PR too. What fun!

Kudos to Project Runway

Reality — How many of us like it? We don’t often like to talk about “real” movies, “real” food or for that matter our own “real” bodies. I find myself looking at the models or actresses on TV and sighing… “Look how thin she is!”

Have you given thought to how often we stop to admire reality? Not enough.

This is why I created PatternReview.com and that’s why I love it when people create style on “real” bodies for “real” life.

I DVR Project Runway and last night I watched Episode 5 in which designers were asked to create styles for 12 average women. I couldn’t get enough of the show. I was glued to the TV. And my best part was when these women walked out on the runway. Each one of them looked gorgeous and confident. Of course my favorite was Elize (Designer Kevin). This was my favorite Project Runway episode. isn’t style all about being comfortable and confident in whatever you wear?

2008 Contests Announced

I just put up the 2008 contests on PR. I know a bunch of you were waiting on this so I thought I’d mention it here too. I need volunteers to manage these contests so if you have some time please do consider it.

More benefits of snow!

I mentioned in my recent Newsletter on PR about the snow sale all month long in December, but here some of the things I did this weekend while enjoying the lovely snow outside.

I made this hearty couscous salad. The recipe is from my favorite magazine Vegetarian Times and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve made this. Not only is this is a favorite in my family, but I’ve passed on the recipe to many others and they love it too.

It has couscous (of course), beans, jalapenos, corn, garlic oil ( I make my own in the microwave by zapping a clove or two with some EVOO for a minute or two), onions, cilantro, lime juice with some cumin and red pepper flakes! YUMMM!!!

I finished my socks! I’ll post more on PR about this pattern and the yarn. I got addicted to socks when I went to Germany for the PR Weekend this October.

Can you tell I love cooking? I made one more thing to round off this relaxing cold weekend.

I am trying to think how to describe this… Ok, let’s call it pasta pudding. Sounds weird I know. It’s a quick pudding made from little strands of handmade pasta which is then dry roasted and then added to milk and boiled until it’s slightly thick. Sugar and nuts are added about halfway. I also like to add a few strands of saffron to make it extra special. Its sometimes eaten as breakfast or dessert after a light meal. It’s called sevai ki kheer if you want the traditional Indian name for it.

Now, the pasta or the sevai is sent by my mom but I think when I make it next I am going to try it from broken pieces of angel hair pasta which I’ll roast in the oven. Roasting the pasta gives it a nutty taste which is unbeatable!

If you want recipes for anything I post on this blog, lemme know and I’d be glad to pass it on!
Now you know why you haven’t seen much of me on PR this past weekend 🙂 I am telling you it’s all about how you look at things. Yes, snow can be a pain, but there are ways to enjoy it 🙂 Bring it on!

Snow Day

You know up until a few years ago, I hated snow but now, I can’t get enough of it. Hmm.. maybe it has to do with the fact that I don’t have to be the one clearing the driveway 🙂 Gagan is sweet enough to do it for us.

But seriously, don’t you just love it?

I like to round up my snow day with a hot bowl of soup and some hot cocoa.

We are expecting a good amount of snow today and My Brother in law just called. They are coming over here after work (we are on the way). More the merrier. Maybe we’ll do some sledding in the backyard this evening. Oh… so much fun.

C’mon… you are jealous arent you?

Not enough time!

Do you ever feel there is not enough time to do things that you want to do? I bet you do! I feel like that almost every day but some days it’s just insane! Like today for example. I made a list of things I needed to do today but got nowhere near it!

Things need to get rolling for the first ever PR Weekend West Coast and I have no time to even think about it. I need to also set up the contests for next year and my sister in law was sweet enough to compile a handy list for the contests from the boards but I still need to finalize which contests will run next year and when. And lets not even talk about getting sponsors for the contest prizes. I keep telling myself – “Breathe!!!!”

I was thinking about making this really nice dish for dinner tonight which my mom made when she was here 4 years ago but the only thing is that it requires a lot of time so I guess that’s not happening today. Gagan, loves it so I am definitely going to make it sometime this week.
